Some of the paintings are over 2 feet by 6 feet (the Snowy and the Great Grey) while the little Saw-whet owl is painted in a more modest 1 foot by 2 feet size. The impressive artwork depicting each owl in four different views is done life-sized and in acrylic paints in order to show all the detailed feather markings of the owls. The book took nearly two years of concerted effort to complete. The large format, hardcover book, published in 1997 by The Heliconia Press Inc., is an acclaimed reference book for birders, artists and anyone interested in Owls. The focus is the artwork created especially for Whiting's book "Owls of North America" which provides detailed paintings of all nineteen species of owls found in North America. Sept - 2011 - Jeffrey Whiting, the founder and operator of the World Wide Nature Artists Group, was honoured in a special exhibit at the Eastern Ontario Biodiversity Museum in Kemptville, Ontario just outside Ottawa. The ZACC conference (Zoos and Aquariums Committed to Conservation) was the 5th such conference in the last 10 years and involved nearly 300 delegates from over 40 countries, primarily from zoos and aquariums with active field conservation programs. "We bring an extraordinary pool of talent to the table, and I sensed a great deal of enthusiasm for what we as an extraordinary collective of artists can do to help our world - a world which is now truly in a state of crisis." "The talk generated a great amount of interest and I am excited by the potential of our organizations working together more closely to support wildlife and habitat conservation around the world", said Jeff. He elaborated on key WNAG programs such as the Art for Conservation program and the Flag Expeditions program. In his talk, Jeff discussed the various ways that the WNAG is leveraging its extraordinary talent pool to support conservation. Jeff was invited to discuss ways in which the arts and science communities could work collaboratively and in particular how Zoos, Aquariums and the WNAG could work together to advance the conservation agenda. On January 31st, Jeff Whiting, WNAG President and Founder presented a talk on "The Role of Art in Conservation" at a major international wildlife and habitat conservation conference hosted by the Houston Zoo in Houston, Texas.
